In her opening speech, President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) Ha Thi Nga affirmed that the 11th Vietnam-South Korea Women's Forum is an extremely meaningful event, marking a new step forward in the cooperative relationship between women of the two countries.
The event is an opportunity to exchange information, share experiences and initiatives on the contribution of women of the two countries in the green economy; raise awareness, interest and coordination of agencies and relevant parties to promote gender equality and green development; enhance understanding, cooperation and exchange between Vietnamese and South Korean women; and contribute positively to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Ms. Ha Thi Nga emphasized: “The world and the region are facing challenges after the Covid-19 pandemic, the serious decline in environmental quality, increasing climate change and the depletion of natural resources. Vietnam and South Korea have both made strong commitments to green growth according to the Global Sustainable Development Agenda.”
The President of the Vietnam Women's Union affirmed that South Korea's achievements in developing green economy, circular economy, gender governance, and women's empowerment in green economy are valuable experiences for Vietnam in the green transition process.
Ms. Kim Jong Sook, President of the South Korea Women's Development Institute, also affirmed that the South Korea-Vietnam Women's Forum has become an event representing women's exchange and strong cooperation on gender equality between the two countries.
“This year’s forum is an opportunity to mark an important step forward for the next decade, building on the achievements of the past 10 years,” emphasized the President of the South Korea Women’s Development Institute.
Under the theme of 'Green Economy and Women's Contribution', we discussed ways for the two countries to cooperate towards sustainable development strategies, including pursuing goals of climate change response, economic development and environmental protection.
At the Forum, delegates actively discussed contents such as: "South Korea's strategy to empower women in the global green economy", "Vietnam Women's Union supports and connects green credit for members and women", "Carbon neutrality, green growth and gender governance in South Korea", "Green growth strategy in Vietnam"...
Sharing here, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union Tran Lan Phuong affirmed that women are the ones who suffer many negative impacts of global climate change, environmental pollution, and epidemics, but at the same time, they are also a positive factor in environmental protection, adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts, contributing to green, inclusive and sustainable development.
However, reality shows that the role of women in environmental protection, climate change adaptation and economic development, especially green economy, has not been fully recognized and promoted due to gender stereotypes.
As an organization representing the legitimate rights and interests of women, together with the common efforts of the political system, the Vietnam Women's Union has actively implemented many practical activities to support women in participating in green development in general and green economy in particular.
Currently, the Vietnam Women's Union is a very active member in participating in the implementation of 3 National Target Programs of Vietnam and 2 Government Projects on supporting women in starting businesses and developing collective economy and cooperatives.
In the coming time, the Association will continue to concretize the State's policies and guidelines on green economy into practical programs and action plans.
Notably, within the framework of this Forum, the Vietnam Women's Union and the South Korean Women's Parliamentarians Network signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a cooperation framework to enhance women's empowerment in both countries, increase their participation in politics and promote a strong political culture.
The signing of the MoU and effective implementation of the commitments will promote the friendly and cooperative relationship between women and people of the two countries, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
